Artistic research into body interfaces, electronic textiles and wearable technologies as tools for expanding human perception
In 2022, María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde participated in ART+ Cuadernos de arte, ciencia y tecnología, a programme of encounters held in Bilbao dedicated to contemporary artistic practices at the intersection of art, science and technology. The programme brought together artists and collectives to share their projects and working methodologies through a series of sessions and workshops.
Castellanos and Valverde participated in the session Textil Electrónico y Wearables, held at Fundación BilbaoArte Fundazioa, where they presented their research into body interfaces and wearable technologies. Drawing on different projects developed through their artistic practice, they addressed the use of sensors, electronics and body-worn devices to expand human perceptual capacities and explore new relationships between the body, technology and the environment.
The session was shared with EJTech Studio, formed by Judit Eszter Kárpáti and Esteban de la Torre, whose practice investigates augmented textiles, interfaces and programmable materials. The ART+ programme also featured artists such as Alba G. Corral and Anna Carreras, bringing together different approaches to artistic creation through digital technologies, interactive systems and experimental processes.
