Art and technology to explore new ways of visualizing and perceiving quantum phenomena
In 2025, María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde participated in Entangled Visions: Exploring Quantum Visualizations in Culture, Dissemination, and the Arts, an interdisciplinary event organised by the Quantum Hub at Oslo Metropolitan University, bringing together perspectives from quantum physics, philosophy, science communication and artistic practice.
Castellanos and Valverde presented their artistic research into the creation of technologies and interfaces capable of making phenomena beyond the reach of human senses perceptible. Drawing on projects involving living organisms, sensors, and systems for data visualization and interpretation, they explored the potential of art and technology to generate alternative ways of accessing, representing and relating to realities that cannot be directly experienced.
The event brought together physicists, artists, philosophers, researchers, educators and curators to examine the role of visualization in understanding and communicating quantum physics and its connections with culture and the arts. Participants included Paul Thomas, Caterina Benincasa, Aurora Del Rio, Stefano Calzati, Anders Kvellestad, Chad Orzel and Khrystyna Gnatenko, as part of a programme combining presentations, discussions, workshops, an exhibition and concerts.
