Exploring other forms of intelligence and perception to rethink, through art and technology, our relationship with plants and the environment
María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde participated in Discovering Other Intelligences, a programme for teachers held at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza as part of its Musaraña educational programme, exploring how contemporary artistic practices can generate new approaches to environmental challenges.
Together with artist and researcher Santiago Morilla and plant ecophysiologist Rocío Alonso del Amo, Castellanos and Valverde addressed the relationships between art, science, technology and the environment from different perspectives. Their contribution drew on their artistic research into plant organisms, interaction technologies and the creation of interfaces capable of expanding possibilities for perception and interaction with other living beings.
The programme combined reflection and experimentation to develop new narratives around our relationship with the environment and to explore contemporary art as a means of questioning how we perceive and interpret other forms of life. These experiences provided strategies that could subsequently be transferred to educational contexts, opening up new approaches to the relationships between technology, ecology and society.
