An experimental art and technology laboratory exploring new relationships between humans and machines through electronics, programming and interaction
In 2017, María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde coordinated and led Humans and Machines, an experimental art and technology laboratory developed at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial as part of its auLAB educational programme.
The laboratory offered a practical and creative approach to technology through experimentation with electronics, programming, sensors and interactive systems. Using these tools, participants explored different possibilities for building devices capable of responding to people and their surroundings, approaching technology as both a material and a language for artistic creation.
Castellanos and Valverde brought methodologies from their own artistic practice into an educational context, focusing at the time on relationships between humans and machines and on research into technological interfaces, interaction and the expansion of human capabilities. The process combined technical learning, experimentation and prototype development, encouraging a critical and creative approach to digital technologies.
Humans and Machines was part of auLAB, LABoral’s programme aimed at introducing new learning methodologies through the intersection of art, technology and education.
