Research into body technologies and expanded perception as tools for exploring our relationship with the environment
In 2019, María Castellanos participated in the roundtable Environmental Awareness Proposals through Bioart, held at Las Naves in Valencia as part of ATENEA 2019 – Women in the Arts and STEM. The event brought together artists, researchers, technologists and scientists working at the intersection of art, science and technology, with particular attention to bioart, digital and electronic arts, and environmental issues.
Under the title Technological Prostheses: Hybridisations between Cyborgs and Wearables as a Paradigm for Expanding Human Sensory Capacities, Castellanos presented her artistic research into the incorporation of technologies into the body and the creation of interfaces capable of expanding human perception. Her presentation addressed relationships between the body, technology and the environment through her work with sensors, wearables and technological interfaces developed to make environmental phenomena beyond the reach of human senses perceptible.
The roundtable also featured Clara Boj, who presented Mar Menor: Knowledge across Disciplines, and Clara Molinicos, with Reset the Forest: Interactive Reforestation Device, bringing together different artistic approaches to ecological issues and to the potential of art and technology to generate new forms of environmental awareness.
