Presentation at Sónar+D of artistic research into plant communication, artificial intelligence and new forms of interspecies dialogue
In 2025, María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde participated in Creative Coding in Practice: Four Approaches to Code-Based Art, a session organised by Creative Coding Barcelona as part of Sónar+D, the annual Barcelona event dedicated to digital creativity, art, technology and innovation.
Under the title Interspecies Dialogues, Castellanos and Valverde presented their artistic research into plant communication and the use of artificial intelligence tools to analyse and interpret signals and behaviours in plant organisms. The presentation approached code and digital technologies as tools for artistic research capable of contributing to new forms of perception and communication between species.
The session brought together four different approaches to code-based creation. Alongside Castellanos and Valverde, participants included Andreas Gysin, who presented his research into the materiality and limits of screens and his experiments with plotters; Roger Pibernat, who presented his live coding tools for sound and audiovisual creation; and Sensitive Interfaces, with a collective investigation into experimental interfaces and new forms of interaction between bodies, machines and environments.
